yes but you have to download ps2 system data from the psn store. my psn name is alaskansamlon. |

now, however, you can only play PS3 games on the newer PS3 systems. Backwards compatability has been removed to reduce the cost of the PS3 even further. i am talking about the 80gb and 160gb models. 
some people think it sucks, but i dont really see the point of buying a NEW system if you are just going to put your old games as a priority to playing the NEW ones, and that is why you won't buy one. not saying your doing that OP, but i never understood that. lol
either way, that is why everyone has their own opinion. |

It looks like PS3 models released in October 2007 or later are no longer backwards-compatible with PS2 games.

Your best bet for an older PS3 will be eBay or craigslist. Be sure to check the chart on Wikipedia first, so you know you're getting a PS2-compatible version. (There's a big red and green chart with a column for PS2 compatibility.) |

I was wondering is it possible to download PS3 game and play it using an external hard drive?
And if so.... How?
Or is it possible to back up a game to your PS3 or external hard drive and it still be playable?
