So I've got a sticky problem. A few weeks ago, my hard drive failed. When I got a new one, I decided to try duel booting Windows XP Prof. with Suse Linux. I loaded Windows first, and my SB Live! Value worked just fine. However, when I loaded Linux, the sound card suddenly stopped working in both operating systems.
Windows can still autodect the card, but it will not output any sound through the jack. However, it will still recognize and interface with the joystick plugged into the SB Live!.
Suse Linux would not autodect the sound card, however, I could get it to play a few seconds of test music through the card once I told it that the card was there. However, Linux would freeze about five seconds later.
I've removed Linux and reloaded Windows, figuring that Linux had done something wrong (it was not operating well with some of the other devices), but I still can't get any sound to come through the card.
Any ideas? |

Most motherboards have onboard sound that needs to be disabled when you install a sound card. Its possible that while trying to play audio linux changed something in your bios or system settings that must be changed back. Then there are the mute buttons and windows own volume settings that could get messed up. you have to go thru them all. Drivers, you don't mention installing drivers for the card. Windows would probably install some generic drivers but the ones from your disk or the website for your specific card would be better. |
