Hi I have just brought some 5.1 speakers that just came on their own, with no amp etc... I want to use these to output sound from my laptop, and my laptop does not have a 5.1 soundcard, but only has analogue and digital outs for stereo sound. What do I need to get in order to connect the two together? (I am not worried whether the sound is output in surround sound or not, as long as all the speakers are being used) |

What kind of speakers are they? My best advice is to just buy an A/V receiver and hook the computer up to it via a cord that converts the headphone out to RCA out. |

They are some quite old Quadral speakers...but I don't know what model they are. I was hoping to use the optical out I have on my laptop because my headphone socket is broken. Can this be connected to an AV receiver? (I have an optical digital cable, but it does not convert it to RCA) And are you sure the sound will be output to all the speakers if I use any AV receiver? Thanks |
