I have a Gateway Computer running Windows XP - tower type - my DVD drive was all region in a sense in that it could be flipped back and forth - after the 3rd time however the message came up that it was locked and would only play Region 1 discs - is there a way to change this?

Thanks.

Bob

If you know what drive you have, go to CD Freaks, if there's a hack for your drive, it'll be there.

The Gateway DVD software contains region coding. That means that only the DVDs assigned with the same region as the Gateway DVD software will be played.

The Gateway DVD and software will set the region code of the first played DVD as default.

Once the region has been set, it is possible to change it four times. When you insert a DVD movie, if the disc is from a region different than the default region, a dialog box is displayed informing you that you have inserted a disc from a different region. This dialog box displays the region for the inserted movie disc and the current player region, along with a list of new player regions and countries you can select. After selecting a new region, a warning is displayed stating the number of region changes remaining before the change is permanent.

If all the region selection is exhausted you need to contact the manufacturer of the computer to reset it again. You may contact support using this URL:
