sup guys i havent been on E in a few days since im not seeing much new things to post about
also wed night for d 1st time i went online with d Wii to play mario kart , 2nd time actually playing it , linked up with 3 local friends & we got going at it , then i tried wordwide comp , this thing is VERY addictive since it had me up 1-2am playing & trying to learn it

Plasma is actually better for gaming and idc about a computer monitor, I'm not going to be using it as one. But LCD has motion blur that really annoys me and also has an input lag that you can tell while you play video games. I've played some games on plasma and liked it a lot more than LCD. I've seen LCD vs. Plasma and Plasma looks more real and deep while LCD's are just bright and just looks fake. |

And about the 720p vs. 1080p thing. I have read multiple times about this and the only way you can tell is if you are sitting 4-5 feet or less from your TV. I doubt I will ever sit that close to a 42" and I just don't see the need to chunk out an additional $200 for the slightest difference. |

I rarely post here because most of you are spamming fucksticks, and also because this has become sort of an Ecoustics Twitter -- but I wanted to chime in on this Plasma vs. LCD debate.
Here are some reasons why LCD is the clear choice for video games:
1- With the new 120hz (and up) refresh rates and 4ms-8ms response times, motion blur is pretty much not noticeable. In fact alot of people don't notice motion blur at all. There are some "hyper sensitive" people that can see motion blur no matter what. In general, a plasma tv's response time is somewhere around 1-2ms if you wondered. Motion blur is more noticeable the bigger the screen size gets, but still, the latest models have nearly eliminated the problem.
2- Plasma tv's require a room that is nearly completely dark, or else the glare off the glossy screen ruins the picture. I read somewhere that something like 40% of plasma TV's are returned for LCD models after the customer gets home and realizes this. Ever notice why stores tuck their plasmas in the darkest corner of the room and crank up the contrast?
3- LCD TV quality is MUCH less dependant on the cost and brand of the TV. The highly rated plasmas (Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung) are expensive, and the cheaper models by other companies are far inferior. 80% of the worlds LCD panels are made by the Korea based alliance of Sony, Samsung and Sharp. What this means is, if you buy a budget TV like a Vizio or Westinghouse, chances are very good it uses the same exact LCD panel as the major brands, with only the wiring and some circuitry different.
4- Plasma TV's are prone to "burn-in" and LCD's are not. Newer models have included a so-called "anti burn-in" circuit, but again these are all on the higher priced end of the scale. People have even reported the station logos at the bottom right of the screen burning in after watching the same station for a few hours a day. The huge static scoring and health bars on video games will for sure leave a burn-in, and in some cases in less than an hour.
Also -- don't buy into this "lifespan" crap. Most LCD and plasma models are rated for 60,000 hours. To put this number into real life terms, that is something like 10 hours a day for 12 years. Not only is this WAY past when you would upgrade, and longer in hours per day than any normal person would watch, it is over two times the half-life span (the length of time a set takes to degrade to 50% of its original brightness) of a conventional CRT tv. |

Yes I know all of these things about Plasma vs. LCD Brad. I've decided to go with the the Panasonic TC-L37S1 only because of the fact that my room isn't really big enough to hold a 42" TV and most of the time there is a lot of light coming into my room. I still think that Plasma>LCD, but for my application I think that LCD would work out a lot better. Thanks for chiming in though Brad. |

I don't really believe in that, What a TV looks like in a store compared to what it looks like at home can be a huge difference. Most of the TV's on display just have the contrast cranked to high because most people think that the brighter the better, which is not the case at all. |

Oh and by the way i got my kenwood cd player with the time alignment in but now I dont have any speakers to mess with because we removed the factory speakers front and back and i need adapter plates now so until then I cant mount my 5.25 diamond hex components and my d3 diamond hex 6.5 coaxes in the rear for fill. Then its time to install the amps. |

Wuzzup fellas? Long time no post here. Been dealing with the docs lately over the ear infection I've had the last week and a half that's had me on antibiotics and 800mg ibuprofin. Nasty stuff. Apparently caused by a bug that bit me overnight inside my ear. Ouch. They also upped my BP meds. Last week I developed some extreme side effects to the meds. (At least I thought I was). I was nervous to say the least just by going back. Had another appointment today and it turns out I have Bell's Palsy. It's a cranial nervous condition causing temporary paralysis of my affected side of my face. Turns out the ear infection I came down with allowed/sparked this condition.
Brief explanation is that there are nerves that connect your facial muscles to your brain that travel through a small hole in the skull just under your ears. When pressure is applied at the right spot over a period of time that pinch spot damages those nerves, sometimes kills them. Depending on the damage determines how long recovery lasts. As little as a few weeks up to a few months, even a year, and on rare occasions lasts permanently. Now the ear infection I had caused that exact area to swell like a hot air balloon, pinching the nerve center. It also killed any hearing I had in my right ear. Now that my ear infection is gone they were able to determine that the cause of my facial condition was due to Bell's Palsy, something that only strikes about 2 out of 40,000 people.
I'm scheduled for bloodwork and an ear and throat specialist next. If the steriods they prescribed me today do nothing to speed up my hearing coming back or help clear up the CP then who knows what's next. Till then I have to wonder what else I have in store. In just a couple weeks I'll be in a couple grand. |
