I have a Sony DCR-HC21 and cannot get the firewire to transfer. My PC does not see it at all. I have Vista SP1 installed. I have the generic driver Vista installs, on a Compaq SR5450F PC with built in Firewire port (Mother board). My cam shows DVin on the display. I have tried several different software packages (Pinnacle, Movie Maker, etc). Can anyone help. And are all firewire cables compatible? I have a 6 pin (PC) to 4 pin (Cam).

Try leaving your camcorder powered on and connected to your PC. Shutdown your PC. Wait a minute. Then reboot. See if that works.

Just tried that and still no change. I bought a new firewire cable, that is supposed to be sony dv compatible. That still didn't work. I don't know if it makes a difference what firewire driver I have. It is "VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller".
Thanks for the response, I'll keep plugging away.
