Ive bought an hitachi DZ-GX5040E (uk) and although the man n the shop said i woul dbe able to connect it to my laptop, it just isnt working!! I got no cable andthe disk doesnt work when i put it in my laptop (something about needing the codecs>!) can someone please help, I need this to create a movie in movie maker for my university assignment thats due in on monday!!!arghhh!!!

The man clearly gave you the wrong information in order to make a sale.
You say you have no cable??? How did you expect to connect to the laptop?
What disk needs codecs? You would only need codecs if the video information in the disk does not match what you have in your laptop.
If your laptop has less than 2 gigs of RAM, you can just forget about editing videos in it. You can probably get by with 1 gig but that cutting it close.
Video editing takes up a lot of resources and connecting a video camera to a computer needs firewire...NOT USB.
