Thread: Nikon D70 pictures are not sharp |

Hello, First off I am a NOVICE photographer who uses a camera to shoot hi-res photos of machine parts for service manuals, usually black parts on a white background, with lettering on them.
I formally used a Coolpix 5700 with good results, but recently ?upgraded? to a D70 model. The pictures are not as sharp as I was getting with the 5700 model. The photos are taken using umbrellas and strobe lights, so the lighting is good
The D70 manual is very difficult to understand, any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Yikes!
Have you taken into consideraton the focus limitations of the lens? It is 15 inches, IIRC, for the 18-70. More than enough for your needs. How is your focus set up? Single or coninuous?
What mode are you using? P, S, A, M?
What lens are you using?

Focus is single
I'm using P mode
Lens is AF-S Nikkor 18-70 1:3.5-4.5G ED
Does this camera have a timer? |

Yes it does have a timer. I don't have the manual with me currently so I can't pinpoint it right now.
How close are you to the subject?
Check also the focus point that you are using. |

I am about two-feet from the object, which is approximatly 2x2-inches in size.
I appreciate the reference to the D70 manual, I did order one. The factory manual is hard to understand. |

Have reference object in the background to ensure that you are focusing on the right subject. Verify the results by focusing properly on the main subject then compare with the way the background looks. |
