The one thing I have been pulling hair out about was wether to get a DVD or a MiniDV cam, and although it seems less popular from the quality camp, I am going DVD for a host of reasons. The one thing I can't seem to figure out, and might make me consider MiniDV again, is this constant comment I hear about Mini DV being easier to edit. I don't get it. How long does it take to get the data to your PC, as that can't be faster than from a DVD drive. So what makes it easier to work with really? Please be specific as to what you find easier, or harder, about either format.....Thanks. |

The issue is file format - it saves in a .vob that is not recognized by many video editing programs. If you want to shoot in DVD the advantage is that you can place it in a DVD player.
But if you want to do any editing you first have to find a program that will accept .vob files
or you will need to find a software converter.

If you are not a teckie this is a major pain. Until camcorder producers work that out stick with MiniDV. |
