Hi, I have a Sharp VL-SD20U MiniDV digital camcorder (the model is about 3-4 years old) that I would like to use as a webcam on my computer. The camcorder has both a firewire (IEEE-1394) and an S-video connector. I read somewhere that using the S-video connection should work, but it seems that I would first need to install the camcorder on the PC. The problem is that the video (editing) software that came with the camcorder is for Windows 98, and my OS is Windows XP Pro. Sharp's website is no help in getting a driver that will work with Windows XP. And I haven't been able to find a driver anywhere else either. Anyone have any thoughts on how to get this camcorder to work as a webcam in Windows XP? Thanks |

i have problems with installing the webcam driver for nv-gs-15 as it is compatible only with Windows xp, and I use Win-98. Is it possible to get the driver software for the same, compatible to Win-98? As I can see, many other users are also complaining of the driver software, even with Win xp! What's the way out? |

Hiya, you need to uninstall the usb and wecam driver software. All you need is to set your camera to webcam under the usb device. Connect it to u'r PC and windows will pic it up. You need to run Windows XP SP1 though. |

I bought a Panasonic NV Gs 15. I have tried desperately to download my recordings in the form of Video form the camera. The s/w provided with the DVC, allows us to only produce still photos while playing back the tape. I have also tried to connect the DVC as a web cam but it simply wont work. What surprises me is that the model with the above features is being advertised and sold around the globe. But there seems to be very less support to resolve user problems. If any one can HELP me with instructions to download Video and use the NV GS15 as a Web Cam please mail me at ruggs1@rediffmail.com. Any help is appreciated.

A simple method is to get a TV card with S-Video input. I found the whole process of recording from miniDv and also using it as a webcam quite simple. It is my recommendation to get a V-gear TV card or similar. |

I have a Panasonic NV GS 15 DVC. I have tried to use the "Colour Night View" feature while recording in bad light. I noticed that the camera takes longer to focus on the object. While shootong still pictures it works well, but if we shoot a moving object like a "playing baby" or any similar thisn, the result obtained is blurd. Please let me know, if this feature works this way or am I using this in-correctly. |

Hi Its amazing to see that nobody has a solution for the problem of transporting Video from Panasonic NV-GS15 to a PC. The CD that comes with the camera is useless for this purpose and is only geared for still pictures and webcam. If anyone has a solution please email me. |

I've got a Panasonic NV-GS 11 camcorder. Everything is fine with except for the webcam function. The camera is set on "webcam", the USB cable is connected, and the USB Driver and Webcam Driver are both installed. I have gone onto Windows Messenger to use it but I only get a black screen. Do I need to use the Firewire connection? No Firewire cable was supplied with the camera. Please help |

For those trying to use the Panasonic GS15 as a webcam, you have to tell the camera to act as a webcam (rather than for video editing). Press the MENU button, select CAMERA, USB FUNCTION and set it to WEB CAMERA. This worked for me, and I also had to use the USB cable rather than the DV cable. |

"For those trying to use the Panasonic GS15 as a webcam, ..." Actually, the GS15 comes with the drivers and software needed to make the model work. From page 47 of the technical manual; "PV-GS9/PV-GS12/PV-GS14 : Optional Software" (Image removed from post but inserted on my webpage at http://www.davidfrancis.us ) Page 50 kind of spells it out, the camera does in fact work with MS Messenger without any additional drivers. As for Yahoo? eh no. Since I posted here more than a year ago, I have to say that I am pleased with the camera but very disappointed with Panasonics support. I doubt I will buy another one. This seems to be a very popular topic because I'm still getting traffic at my site from here... I wonder if Panasonic would bother to address this issue? |

Hi I have a JVC D270, XP sp2, and I never had any problem in exporting video or recognizing the camera in windows. I tried using it as webcam and, with MS Messenger, it works partially: I get video, but I can't use the cam mic. Until some days ago it showed an option in Messenger 7 wizard (I also tried 7.5), but after messing with alternative DV drivers, it disappearead. I tried Orangeware's WebcamDV & DVDriver, but with no success. Also, why does Messenger send outside a zoomed and cropped image? Can someone help me? Thanks |

Will Canon ZR200 do webcam(yahoo IM)? I seem to be missing something simple. It sees it I think, but says it is the wrong image size and won't let me change it anywhere that I can see(Not in superwebcam settings). :/ Thanks for any insight. |

Hi I have a Panasonic NV GS-47. The camera works fine on a Dell Lat 610 running on Windows XP The Camera however does not seem to agree with Windows 2000 (SP4) 1. While attempting to install in Tape Recording or Tape playback mode. Windows 2000 finds the new hardware as DVC. Not able to detect drivers and the device as to either skipped or disabled. It is listed in Device Manager ->Other Devices->DVC The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) 2. The Camera works fine on PC Connection mode. The device is installed as Matshita DVC USB device and everything works fine. 3. The CD which came along as the MotionDV STUDIO 5.3E LE for DV, Video Stream Driver and USB device. 4. The Operating Instructions manual has the USb High speed and USB logo. So the issue "should" not be with USB 2.0 or related issues. 5. I am not looking at solutions which involve Fireware. The challenge is to get the camera to work in USB mode. It works fine on Windows XP. Any suggestions?? |

I downloaded the drivers for "USB Driver (for Web Camera)" from http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vDownloads?storeId=15001&lan gId=-1&page=CamcorderDownloads These drivers are for PV-GS36 and PV-GS39 I installed them for my NV GS47. The DVC issue does not appear to anymore in the device manager. However MotionDV STUDIO 5.3E LE for DV tells me that the Camera should be connected using USB 2.0. I then installed a USB 2.0 card on my machine. MotionDV STUDIO 5.3E LE for DV stills wants camera to be installed on USB 2.0 On the camera LCD "PC does not support USB 2.0" I then installed Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0->Video Capture 8.0 Video Capture 8.0 detects my camera fine. However Camera still says "PC does not support USB 2.0" I have installed an Acer USB 2.0 PCI card (Displayed in Device Manager as ALI PCI to USB Open Host Controller) |

I recently bought a GS17 and want to use it as a webcam. I connect the cam via a firewire cable. After connecting the cam to my pc I startup MSN Messenger. When I go to the Audio and Vidio settings wizard, I can't select the GS17 as a microphone in step 2. But I can select the GS17 in step 3 as a cam. Does somebody have a solution how I also can use the microphone of the GS17 in MSN Messenger? My setup: * MS Windows XP Home SP2 * MSN Messenger 7.5 * Panasonic GS17 * firewire Already thanks for the time and trouble. Greetings. |

You will need to attach a separate microphone to the PC. The microphone will not be recognized by the program at all. Firewire will not accept raw unprocessed microphone input, just audio from a media source. |

So via firewire it isn't possible to use the mic. Is it possible if I make the connection via USB? Or is that also not possible? |

No it is not. I have used a camcorder as a webcam only by using firewire and a separate microphone attached to the PC's mic input. I hated it. Now I just use a regular webcam from logitech with a built in mic. A lot less hassle. I have not used a USB connection with any camcorder, so I cannot comment on that. |

Sorry Vegeta, I hate that I cannot edit the posts. More information, that I forgot to tell you. The only way for the microphone to work on the camcorder if being used as a webcam is to turn on the recording function of the camcorder. Otherwise it will not work, because the mic only turns on when the camcorder is shooting footage. I believe that you will get the same results with USB. You still need to get a separate microphone to connect to the PCs mic input. |

Hello, I recently purchased a Sony DV505 Camcorder. I want to use it as a Webcam, but noticed it does not have Firewire. Instead it has USB 2.0. I thought this was a "high end" Camcorder and I'm surprised it does not have Firewire. I want to use it as a Webcam and can't find any softwarre that works with USB. Everthing seems to require Firewire. Has anybody successfully converted a Camcorder to a Webcam using USB as opposed to Firewire? |

I have Sony DCR-SR42 bought with the intention of using it also as a webcam. I found out that I could not use it. I have tried some third software driver, but the best I could get is blank screen. I use xp media center edition. Please I need help from any one who has solved this problem. |
