I'm new at photography and DSLRs, but im looking to take it in college next fall and i need to buy a digital camera. my choice was a D70. I found these two deals online: Nikon - D70 Digital SLR Camera w/ 18-70mm AF-S DX f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED Nikkor Lens - Free Printer Offer + Rebate Final Cost $999.99 Package Includes: - D70 Digital SLR Camera Body - Nikon 18-70mm F/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S Lens - Strap - Body cap - Eyepiece cap - LCD monitor cover - Video cable - USB cable - Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL3 - Quick Charger MH-18 - PictureProject CD-ROM - CR2 Battery Holder MS-D70 - Lens cap: front (LC-67) - Lens cap: rear (LF-1) - Soft case (CL-0915) - Hood: bayonet-type (HB-32) Second Option: Nikon - D70 Digital SLR Camera w/Sigma Two-Lens Kit $979.95 Package Contents: - D70 Digital SLR Camera Body - Sigma 28-80mm Autofocus Lens - Sigma 70-300mm Autofocus Lens - Sigma Gadget Bag - Camera-Strap - Body cap - Eyepiece cap - LCD monitor cover - Video cable - USB cable - Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL3 - Quick Charger MH-18 - PictureProject CD-ROM - CR2 Battery Holder MS-D70 I'm thinking the second one would be a better deal since it comes with two lenses? duh. i could care less about the free printer. i guess my question is which lens is better? The Nikon 18-70mm F/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S Lens or the Sigma 28-80mm Autofocus Lens. Again, i'm real new at this so sorry for my lack of knowledge i need as much help as i can get. thanks! |

The 18-70 kit lens is a much better lens. It focuses faster than the Sigma and has better glass than the 28-80. Check out ritz or wolf cameras, they are having a sale on the d70 kits. And yes, the printer deal is just bait. I'm wondering where you are getting this deal? |

I expect Berny I correct, Nikkor glass is a big reason why I was looking so hard at the Nikon DSLRs. Check out photozone.de for their ratings database and do some searches at fredmiranda.com--they have a constant barrage of "what lens to buy" messages and a knowledgeable user base that isn't shy about their opinions of lenses. Sigma has a spotty quality reputation.
