Does anybody know which one is better in terms of performance if you have a choice to choose among two?

How about coaxial vs. optical digital?

S-video is far superior to composite. Never use composite if you don't have to. The debate between coax and optical can be a really funny one at times. In terms of sound quality they are virtually identical and I doubt if anyone could hear a difference in a blind test. I prefer coax because it's a more solid, rugged connection and the optical cables are fragile and can't be bent etc. Plus a decent coax cable is much cheaper than optical.
