I am confused, hope someone can help?

I have a media niche, 5 surround sound indoor speakers and two outdoor speakers. The media niche has a single two pair wire connecting the outdoor speakers. The Red/Black is connected to channel 1 on my amp and the white/green pair is connected to channel 2 on my amp.

Outside, the singe pair terminates with the full two pairs at each speaker. However, each speaker will only work on the Black/Red pair and the white/green are totally non-active. Can anyone explain how a single pair can terminate into two pair but only have the black and red work??

Are the white / green wires active going into the Media Room wall plate?
