I am a military spouse who has purchased a JVC 47" LCD tv for my husband who is in IRAQ. I want to get it all set up for him before he arrives home in a couple of months. I want him to be able to use the tv screen as a computer screen via his laptop. I was told that I need this VGA to HDMI cable. I CAN NOT FIND IT ANYWHERE. Can anyone with great knowledge about these things, please help me with this? I sure would appreciate it. Thanks Gwillis64 |

I take it the tv does not have separate HDMI and VGA inputs? |

VGA is analog, HDMI is digital, there's no cable to connect the two. The laptop needs a video card with HDMI or DVI output. |

There is no cable that can do it; however there are conversion boxes available which are capable of adopting PC output (VGA) whether it`s a laptop or desktop and converting it to HDMI. http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/Atlona-PC-Laptop-to-HDMI-Converter-with-built -in-Scaler-up-to-1080p-Pre-Order-p-17471.html http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/Atlona-PC-Component-to-HDMI-Scaler-with-local -PC-Component-output-Pre-Order-p-17472.html |

Its not possible to go from a VGA signal to HDMI with just a cable. However, there are some devices that pitched as VGA to HDMI cables, but they actually have a converter built in. Also, since VGA does not carry the audio signal, any conversion would lack sound. |

I dont trust this cable... let me know if it works out. It says it combines audio and video, but vga is just video... anyway, i do have a question, my tv has vga in, but what is the best way to take in sound from my computer? |

It depends on your configuration. Assuming you're using the speakers on your TV, you can connect the headphone jack on your PC to a 3.5mm audio in jack on the TV (assuming you have one). You would need a 3.5mm Male-Male cable like this on from tekCABLE.com http://www.tekcable.com/12ft-3-5mm-stereo-audio-cable-m-m.aspx If you don't have a 3.5mm Audio In jack on the TV, you can use a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
http://www.tekcable.com/12ft-velocity-3-5mm-stereo-male-to-dual-rca-male-y-cable.aspx On the other hand, if you're using an A/V receiver, you could connect from the PC to your receiver. |

RCA is probably a little better quality but you probably won't be able to notice the difference through your TV. It's more important to consider how your TV is setup. On many TVs, when you select the VGA input, it automatically selects the 3.5mm Audio port. |

I would be skeptical of this cable - it doesn't look like it has an active chip in it. Has anybody had a chance to try it? |
