Id like to use a marine radio/cd player to power my 4 outside rock speakers. They are 8ohms but the marine stereo (waterproof) puts out 4ohms. Will this work and if not, how can I incr from 4 to 8ohms easily ?

No problem. 4 ohms actually is more stressful to an amplifier as it requires twice the current of 8 ohms. Also, 4 8 ohm stereo speakers is a 4 ohm load, as ohms are usually measured in per two speakers. Ohms are not like voltage, higher is actually LESS resistance.A 4 ohm amp can drive anythingg 4 ohms or higher.Craig http://hometheaterinsider.net

True Craig but given the scenario it is always best to match the impedance of the output to the load.

Place (2) 8ohm speakers in parallel with each other and get an effective 4 ohm load. Same on each channel R/L

One 8ohm speaker is more resistance than a 4 ohm and will not play as loud.
