I was wondering if I could connect a keyboard with a 1/4 of an inch line out to a recording device with S/PDIF in. Currently, the keyboard's 1/4 inch out cable goes into an XLR adapter. So, is it possible to connect an XLR or 1/4 inch cable to a S/PDIF In (RCA style jack). |

Yes, Just go to a guitat center or any musical instrument store that has pro audio. They have adapters from 1/4 mono, stereo, to XLR, and RCA. Basically they are all low voltage un amplified cables. XLR cables are ballanced. The S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) is a digital to analog converter plug. http://global.aopen.com.tw/products/mb/spdif.htm |

Read the indications on the website I pasted. It may not be a simple adapter install. There may be other equipment involved. |

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/S/S_PDIF.html Nevermind. Looks like it is not a digital to analog converter. It just allows you to maintain digital to digital transfer without going to analog between transfer. I should have done better research. I hope this helps. Google works |

Well thanks, but it appears that since S/PDIF is a digital connection, you can't change it to an analog singal (like an XLR or 1/4in) without going through hardware, like a sound card or the like. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong... |
