i was at my local hifi store picking up a new cd player and the guy starts coming on to me about powercords, saying i'd see good returns by replacing the stock one.
his reasoning, after i asked, was twofold. firstly he says the cable is somehow more efficient at transmitting power. secondly he says the cbale can block radio frequency and electromagnetic interference.
but both of these reasons dont seem to make intuitive sence to me.
if i have 10m of in-wall cable of x efficiency and then i go add 1m of a superefficient cable, how can this improve the power supply? i'm imaging some kind of 'upconversion', which seems impossible. wouldnt the power or signal only be as strong as the weekest link?
and regarding the emi/rfi filtering, why not just put it somewhere further upstream, eg on the powerstrip cable, and save money by using the stock cables on all your components?
thanks for any opinions on this anyone.
