My current setup is a standard 36" CRT, DVD player, 500 watt surround sound system & digital cable box. I'm just using one of those $10-$20 power surges and haven't had any problems or issues in years.

My NEW setup in a few weeks will be:

42" LCD TV, 500 watt surround system, CableCard (no box) & Xbox game system.

I'm NOT even considering a $400 UPS or whatever they are called. I don't have a problem with power outages in my area nor do I have any flicker or static when A/C or refrigerator starts running.

BUT I didn't know if those power strips by Monster, etc. that are in the $100-$200 range supposdly "cleans" noise from your line really does anything. I notice you can also plug the coaxial cable into it before going into your TV.

I will also have a wireless cable modem near this well, so didn't know if there was any issues.

Finally what is the minimum "JOULES" I should look for, considering any of this is "neccesary".

Thanks :-)

If you have that much invested in electronics. I advise you to get an on line UPS. It only takes one good spike to blow a lot of equipment up.
A good quality UPS can probably end up making your electronics run better and longer by not stressing your equipment with smaller spikes and brownouts.
