Can someone answer this question please..
my reciever has these video inputs and outputs so that i can connect my dvd to and my monitor.
Why would i want to pass video through my reciever anyway? isn't it best to connect the video cables directly from the dvd player to the monitor?

No need to pass the video through the receiver, it is more of a convenience.

Thank you Berny! I was under the impression that i'd be missing something if I didn't pass it through the rest of the equipment.

If your TV has the usual basic composite inputs, you can connect the extra unit to it via those.
