I don't care if my FULL NAME aka NICK NAME is seen. Why ask for that if no one can see it now?

It's bad enough you admins are "privileged" to see our PRIVATE IP ADDRESS. Lord only knows what you do with them.

I received too many complaints from new users who were not aware their real name would be displayed on their posts.

Usernames cannot be modified or duplicated, so impersonations will be more difficult.

I understand it may take a little while to get used to, but in the long run I think it's better to keep real names private.

Those "new users" are usually the people that come to post one question, then leave when it gets answered. The people that make you money (us regulars) are at stake here.

Do you have any webmaster skills? Can't you or whoever is over the design make it in parentheses right beside "real name" say "(this is what you will appear as)"

It isn't that hard. That will stop complaints and also we can keep the name we had.

This why the admins changed things but most are smart enough to see that it is NOT the real Nalin Nyda

I still don't think the login name and user name should be the same. if you want things to change then use our e-mail address to log in and let us choose to have a FULL name aka NICK name only
shown.

E-mails are also private or should be here and can not be duplicated. Just don't show them ONLY to the members when posting to LOGIN.

So why not since we have to register with a valid e-mail address, let that be the LOGIN/USER name and let us have a NICK / FULL name to use to post under?

only showing our nick name , members status ,post numbers and registered date?

in the past you wanted email address user name and full name

You can cut a lot of hassel is you only ask for e-mail and full/nick name. Cant you?

It wouldn't be too hard to make the displayed name a user selectable option. However, that would make it easier for impersonators to copy someone's name.

I think it's important to prominently display the username since that is unique to everyone and cannot be copied.

display a users full name when you mouse over it or you could have it so a mini window comes up like when you want to upload etc.. that way it wont interfere with the page and it wont change like Mike3 worries about.

Most FTA forums have it like that, and most other forums as well.
All email is addressed to a user name.
Please DO NOT allow any facilites that will make it easier to impersonate a known entity.

I like that idea

But also i like the mouse over (hover)idea as well

so put it back to the old way for now till you make better changes.

I personally don't like my user name anymore LOL

oh and you should have it so a member has to type in a code one that is e-mailed out to the member and only the member can us it to make any changes to the profile.

I have heard in the past some members have had their accounts hacked into... the passwords got changed so the member trying to log in couldn't anymore. I am NOT saying it was an Admin but for security sake, give us a random security code that the admins don't know or can get a hold of. Is that possible?

To me the ones applauding this change all cry "identity theft". I chuckle inside about this. True identity theft IS a serious crime. Calling posting under a familiar name identity theft is, well, childish. Yeah. I think I'll post something ridiculous using Chad's name and then go buy some speakers under it. Nobody will be the wiser right? Please.

And if you're so worried about your rep why would anyone value someone's else's opinion when they can't even distinguish between bogus and legit members? This is all playing into a troll's hands. They live for this kind of attention.

The easiest solution to all this is member mods and all we ever see is knick knack changes trying to avoid it. The language filter is completely fucked up and spam threads run rampant at times. There are so many suggestions and requests from well established members that just get put out to pasture it's a shame. I mean even ones that have been suggested for YEARS.

We get the feeling this place is merely a billboard with little concern about its' members. With all the ads and coupons it makes me wonder what's next. Charging $.01 a post? Not bashing the forum but just saying...................
