Battery Space Batteries and Charger Review

| Create New Product Review | Reply | Edit

Two Years ago (July 2004) I was looking for a cheap way of dealing with the high cost of batteries. I found myself robbing one remote to feed a radio and the radio to feed a flash light The answer obviously was rechargeable batteries. But which ones, there are hundreds of companies selling hundreds of brands. The Retail stores were out of the question (Just too expensive).

After extensive searching on the web I settled on purchasing from Battery space (www.batteryspace.com)The seemed to offer similar or better amp hour ratings on their batteries then other companies but for a much cheaper price. My original purchase comprised of the Vanson Speedy Box recharger 24 AA 2250mAh + 24 AAA 750mAh Powerizer NiMH Cells Package. My grand total $85.50 after shipping. ($30 of this was the charger).

In 2005 we had Hurricane Wilma blow through south Florida, of course I never prepare for a hurricane (I do now) but these batteries were a life saver, we were without power for over a week but I had enough batteries in all of the devices in my home to scrounge for radio batteries.

Now it is July 2006, As you can Imagine, those batteries over the past two years have slowly disappeared, filing every device in the house (And I am sure a few found their way to other people homes) and I have started the cycle of battery theft once again. The batteries themselves have held up great, every one I have left still holds their charge. My problem is that I just never had enough of them. It is hurricane season again here in south Florida so now it is now time for investment number too...

24 Pcs AA 2500mAh+12 Pcs 850mAh AAA High Capacity NiMH Rechargeable Batteries
2 9V NiMH 250mAh Rectangular NiMH Rechargeable Batterry ---Ultrahigh capacity
4 C Size 5000mAh Button top Rechargeable NiMH Batteries

This cost me $66.74. More batteries and higher capacity

To hold the excess Batteries I am placing them in the "Battery Rack 40". Battery space sells this item but I actually found it in a local Garage sale so I scooped it up.

The Rack
The Rack works great, It really isn't enough for my needs, as you can see I have utilized the C and D trays for my overflow. The AA work fine but the AAA's turn into a waterfall. It is great to have a place to store charged batteries for ready use instead of looking through the Junk Drawer in the dark. The Rack also has a battery tester. This is great to see of the battery is actually dead or the equipment is.

The Charger
This charger Does it all, from AA to 9V, there are 4 Internal Compartments which can charge a maximum of 4 batteries simultaneously and two 9V slots externally. It took me 2 days to charge all of the batteries I purchased this run. A green light will pop up on the charger when the batteries are fully charged. No need to worry about overcharging...

WARNING: Never use the Internal and External Slots at the same time

Although the directions do not say it, DO NOT charge 9V and internal compartment batteries at the same time. The smart charger ceases to be smart and never indicated charging is complete. The Batteries will get SIZZELING hot, after a look on the web I found other mention this. I thought I ruined my charger since but after unplugging it for 3 hours to cool down (After 24 hours of overcharging) and it worked great once again. This is why you really need to invest in a great charger like this. Your rechargeable batteries are useless without a reliable charger. Just remember to charge the 9V separately and you will be fine.

The 9V
Not the most Glamorous looking battery in the world, I don’t use them much anymore but once in a while something comes up so best to have a few on hand.

The C
Strictly on reserve for my hurricane flashlight.

The AAA
Notice the new Model in Orange, other older “Blue only” battery is one of the sets I purchased in 2004.

The new batteries are 850mAh and the originals were only 750mAh. Thats 13% more battery life….

The new batteries are 2500mAh and the originals were only 2250mAh. That's 11% longer battery life.

Final Thoughts
Between my first and second purchase I have spent $150. On Average I have spent $25 per year the first 2 years (if you just count the batteries). With this second purchase I do not expect to make another battery purchase for quite some time. They have already paid for themselves with the availability (especially around Christmas time if you have kids).

Check back in the future I will make some addendums to this review if I see any decline in performance over the next few years.

Battery space has shipped quickly and so far their products and customer support have not let me down. Give them a try: www.batteryspace.com they should be one of the first places to visit for Hurricane preparedness...

I have been a Batteryspace customer for almost 4 years now, since November 2004. From then on, Batteryspace becomes the only battery supplier that I do business with. The reason that made me a returned customer is that its products offers the best quality price ratio. I will continue to be a returning customer to BatterySpace for my future needs, due to their unmatchful quality price ratio.

In November 2004, I bought a couple of dozens of AA 2300mAh (now the web site is selling for 2600mAh as the standard of NiMH rechargeable) High Capacity NiMH Rechargeable Batteries from BatterySpace. Today, I am still using most of them (1 out of 24 died). I have been using them in many appliances, from personal mp3 player to my kid's toys to my digital camera. The primary comment I have for those batteries, that I have been using for 4 years, is that they are reliable. They have been recharged again and again. I don't see any problem with the 23 batteries (again, out of 24).

In May 2007, I bought another batch of AA batteries. This is because the 23 I have are outnumbered by the personal accessories I have now. Lots of funs coming out from the support of the rechargeable batteries, and the peace in mind that the rechargeable batteries are friendly to the environment, which makes me feel good about having a positive impact on our environment when I use those batteries.

The Class 2 battery charger (model V-6833B 5H26 E183799), with space saving foldable plugs, charging up to 4 batteries at a time, a built-in IC timer control, charges both AAA and AA batteries nicely and smartly as well. After approx.8-hour charging, the charger will stop automatically and its LED will switch off.

I have not conducted a scientific study on the battery's data so I don't have precise numbers to support my point. But my feeling is that the batteries have high quality in terms of strength. For example, my walkman uses 2 AA batteries. After putting in 2 charged AA batteries, it almost runs for 3 weeks before I need to recharge them. I was surprised of it because the rechargeable batteries I had before wear out in 1 week or so even if you don't use them.

Another example, using their batteries on my digital camera, I have never experienced any problems due to the batteries. So I never had any idea about the "memory loss effect" my friends talked about. I updated my camera several times, from Nikon to Pannasonic to Cannon, but the batteries used have always been from BatterySpace.

This time, I am buying dozens of AAA batteries. This is because I have a new mp3 player which requires this size of batteries.

The outstanding quality, in combination with an outstanding price concluded that this company provides the best value - quality price ratio. I am glad I chose BatterySpace 4 years ago . Seeing their business running 4 more years since then, I have developed more trust for them.
