There is no check-box for "Live". None for "Broadcast" either. Apart from "Live", there is no simple answer, not for recorded music. "It depends on what you want". The longest thread here has been circling this question for over two years. |

John, would "Live" count as a format and haven't several formats been used as a source to 'broadcast' music? My suggestion for "Live" would be venue and for broadcast, the transmission medium, and perhaps the receiver and components. Note: on other audio websites poll results differ, on some vinyl leads the way, others, the CD, though SACD often seems to fare well. |

My Rantz, Thanks. The question was about a "format for music". I am trying to keep in mind the distinction we have discussed before; between music and a recording of music. This thread comes under "Music". Leonardo seems to be asking about format for recording. Yes, quite right, there are different formats from broadcasting, too. It used to be that a live broadcast was reckoned to be the best source, for reproducing sound with the highest fidelity. That was in the early days of FM radio. |
