I purchased the LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers both in extended edition and with a DTS track. They come in a box designed to look like a book instead of the regular DVD package and contains about 30 and 45 minute of footage cutoff from the movie due to time constraints. A must have for Rings fans.

The extended editions are miles better than the theatrical releases from every point of view, in my opinion, and worth getting, even of you already have the theatrical release (which Dolby Digital only, and on one disc). They have probably timed the last extended edition for Christmas.

John, Return of the King is certainly worth waiting for. But before that, on Sept 21, comes the DVD Box set of the original Star Wars trilogy. Now that's gonna be something special as well.
May the force be with you....

The Star Wars Trilogy would be exciting, were it the "original" and not the modified versions. I hear now that they've even imposed Hayden over the original Anakin at the end of "Jedi". sighs...

I also have the extended editions of the first two LOTR films and they are miles better than the standard versions. Return of the King will definately be worth the wait.

Peter Jackson is a genuis, he needs to get a knighthood. Those films are the greatest films of all time in my opinion, yes ! Star Wars, Godfather, may be good, but LOTR stands out to be the best I have ever seen. From aspect of movie making, special effects and cinematography.

"Arise, Sir Peter...." Wonder if he would wear shoes for the occasion.

Anyone seen it, yet? Ours is wrapped, and under the Christmas tree.

Purchased LOTR:The Return Of The King extended version a few days after its release.
Knocked out by it! (I opened a new thread earlier regarding the Dolby-DTS sound quality comparisons before I came across this thread, so apologies for that - although it is a slightly different topic!). Anyway, both Dolby and DTS soundtracks are gorgeous, and the picture quality (I use IXOS top-notch scart) is astonishing. The extended version made the whole experience so much fuller, stuff relating to the book, etc. This is probably my favourite film of all time!

I agree, Alan. The whole trilogy, in the extended versions, show just what the DVD is capable of.
