i have 2 12" 4 ohm alpine type R's, but i might upgrade them too. I was thinking of going with JL audio or Hifonics for the amp. I want something that is going to bang. If you have any better suggestions let me know. Thanks

Get the JL over the Hifonics. But they are generally in different price categories. Im guessing you would be running the Hifonics down to 1 ohm? I would get a bigger Hifonics and run it at 4 ohms if you can get it still a lot cheaper than a JL.

Here are some other good options:
Hifonics ZX 6000 - two channel, 300wx2@2ohms
Kicker 04KX550.2 - two channel, 275x2@2ohms

Those are both AB amps, but its only 600w, so any alternator should run those really nicely.

If you want are in dire need of a mono amp:
Orion 600D 600@1ohm
Hifonics BX 1500D 500@4ohms *(for the same price as the Orion!)
Hifonics BX 500D 500@1ohm
JBL BP600.1 600@1ohm

I would go with the Hifonics 1500D at 4 ohms. It'll still be cheaper by quite a bit over then JL, unless you a)buy the Hifonics from a bricks&mortar or b)know someone who sells JL for cheap.
