My alternator just got messed up and need to know what size I should get the new one. I have a RF (rockford fosgate) amp 2400mx watts for my subs which are 12" RF HE2 400 rms a kenwood 4 channel amp 280 wattsmx for my 4x6 which are Infinity kappa series 180wattsmx and another amp 400wattsmx 2 channel for my 6x9 pionner 300wattsmx. I also have a 1farad cap. My head unit is a pioneer DEH-9300. What do you guys think should I get a 180 amp or 200 or more?

a: you need to know the stock rating of the original alternator first.
b: I need to know the RMS rating of all of your amplifiers, at the load they are presented. that's all that matters for this calculation.
c: a capacitor is meaningless.
d: given the option, get the largest HO alternator you can find.
200A should be sufficient for most systems.
