I will be wiring up a system soon and I am 90% sure that I run the power wire from the battery (+). I dont need to take the power wire from the alternator do I? Do I even need to consider the alternator other than wether or not it is 12v?

Well an alternator is always a good thing to upgrade if you have a system. If you have a very large system then defanetly but if its smaller like 2 subs than youll be fine. Yes run the power wire from the battery (red). Not from the alt. And dont ground the system using the battery ground. Ground it to your car frame or body.
