is pouring pepsi on the battery post a good way of cleaning of the excess stuff around it? Should I wipe the pepsi off or let it dry, or what? please help?

It works pretty well, pour it on, let it sit for a second, scrub the terminal if needed, dry the post. You can put petroleum jelly (like Vasoline) or the specially made post jelly to prevent acid corrosion from happening again.
