Been thinking about what to do about my 96 Civic's limitation as regards to the component speakers. I think I found a solution and would like to know what you guys think about this:

Q-Forms are pretty good, but you'll need to be aware of a couple of things:
1. It may be a fairly large obstruction for a car this small,
2. It may not give you any more mounting depth.
Check with the Q-logic site for the exact specifications regarding that part.

What Matt said, plus others:
1. The Q-logic enclosures are made with very thin ABS plastic, aka RESONANCE, and lots of it. You'll need to dampen them with something like Dynamat.
2. Those panels are open backed, and the rear of component speakers need to be totally separated from the front for the best sound quality, which these panels again don't do.
3. The location isn't optimum for all component sets. Different component speakers perform differently on and off axis. Some components are optimized for off axis performance, some are very linear, and most fall somewhere in between. The fact that Q-Logic is owned by Rockford Fosgate makes me lean that they are optimized for RF components and MB Quarts(also owned by Rockford Fosgate).
4. You're a guy in a Honda Civic, a car that isn't renowned for it's legroom, or any kind of room for that matter, no offense to your car at all, I'm just stating facts. I'm 6'2" and have a hard enough time getting in a Civic without kick panel pods, my legs curl up just trying to drive one even with the seat all the way back(my legs are long for my height, though). I'm guessing driving a Civic everyday would mean you don't have this problem (or are very tolerant of it  ), but if you're anywhere around 6 foot, you'll have nowhere to put your foot with kicks. If your car is a stick, you can FORGET it altogether. Trust me, our shop's installer has done custom kick panels in Civics, usually for shorter guys and girls. With tall guys, it just doesn't work out, there were some Civics that I couldn't even get my leg in w/o getting a cramp.
5. Those kick panels only accomodate very few 6.5" component systems (usually the cheaper ones with smaller motors and short mounting depths). You're usually limited to 5.25" components. |

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to steer away from them. I'm 5'11" so the kick panels are going to be a problem. I'm going to be calling a few local professional install shops today to see how much custom door panels cost and take it from there. |

Technically speaking, if the installer just cuts out the baffle that is the main problem in the Hondas, you can get away with 2.625" (or something like that). That puts you in target for a lot more options.
Glassing would be required if you stepped up to anything at or above 2.75".
