I'm looking to put a sub or two in my 96 civic, budget is around $500 for sub/box/amp. I am also considering replacing factory speakers, I do have a kenwood HU so I just need to replace the 4 speakers and get an amp and whatever accesories with that. I don't want to spend anymore than a grand total so less than $500 for 4 speakers and amp would be more desireable. My civic is an EX so I already have component speakers in front.

Hondas have serious depth issues. Read this thread for more info and recommendations:

For subs, I have no idea what your preferences are, but $500 will get you one Adire Audio Shiva, an enclosure, and a class AB amp.

If you wanna get out on the cheap, Elemental Designs has a pre-order sale for another few days. Combo #4 would save you a few hundred dollars:

I am considering leaving the compenent speakers alone for now, depth issue sounds like a pain. For subs I'm considering Infinity Kappa 12s, Glass recommend Eclispe but they are around $100 more and harder to find. My uncle went with ADS for subs and he is looking around for me now too.

I did have a thought on the elementals you referred me too. The mids come with grills so I get hit a junkyard and buy a new speaker door panel and cut the appropriate hole for the speaker to stick out. May not look pretty but the depth issue would be solved and the ele's come with the speaker grill so that would be protected.

For the money, the eD combo is currently a steal. That sale ends this week, so get 'em soon. I'd put their O series up against a Kappa any day.

Yes, topmounting with spacers is the common solution to the Honda problem -- it's just not all that pretty.

Combo #4 you recommended doesn't seem to be a pre-order special, does the sale still end for those this week? Where is a good place to get the spacers for the door speakers?

It's stil preorder, they just didn't do it in blue ($550 vs. $1045).

I believe these will fit for you:

2001 have the same dimensions as 96? Also, would you recommend replacing speaker wire for the components?
