Help me I am in Hell. This is my second install, and bad crap is happening. Heres what i have.:
HU-Pioneer 4600 mp
amp-rockford p2002
speakers (front only)-Infinity Kappa 5.25" coaxials
I have been getting distortion in the lower end and chirps from the upper end of these coaxials. This has been an off and on problem. Gain is set right, HU isn't maxed out in volume. Connections are solid. I was advised that it could be the amp, and so I bypassed the amp and wired the speaks' straight to the HU. It is still happening.
Can this be a HU problem, or are the speakers blown? When I first got these and ran them off the amp they sounded fine. A few days later this started happening. Any tests I can do? Right now I plan on buying a new set of speaks' to test the HU(will return after). HELP!!!

Try switching to the "rear" RCAs from the HU to the amp.

It sounds like you've ruled out most of the usual causes and I would have to agree that it was fried channels on the HU.
