When looking for an amp what db rating should the slope have? is 24db the best? |

so from what i get out of this is that it doesnt really make a difference unless you dont know the frequency response of the amp already. Im looking at three amps one has a 12 one has an 18 and the other has a 24 db slope so what would be recommended? |

the slope is just how fast the amp's crossover will roll off beyond the crossover point. the shallower the slope (smaller number) the more you'll hear the frequencies above the crossover point as the crossover kicks in. think of it this way. a 24dB slope is like a brick wall. you won't hear much of anything above the XO point. if you use a shallow slope like 12dB, your subs will roll off more gradually, allowing them to blend a bit more smoothly with the mids, which helps if you go right from say a 5" mid to a 12" sub. the slope you choose is up to your ears and your system though 18dB is a good middle ground setting

well i figured out the amp im gonna get. its an alpine mrd-m501. 550w X 1 @ 2ohms dynamic. It has a switchable 12 or 24 db crossover that way i can pick which i like better. Thanks for the help once again glass. |
