I was at a store the other day listening to a bunch of component speakers- focals, JL, and MB Quartz. I liked the Quartz the best- great sound for an affordable price ($300). The quartz model number is RCE216. The problem though is that I heard them at the store powered by a $450 JL amp. I simply cannot spend that amount on an amp. Is it that different in sound quality when you buy a cheaper amp? My sister works at circuit city so I can get great deals on things there. I definetly am very skeptical though because of all i hear about those types of brands. I wouldn't buy a set of components there but am thinking about buying an amp to power them. Have you heard anything about pioneer amps? I found one there that has .008% THD, and 100DB s/n ratio. It seems pretty good but I need an outside opinion. The model number for the amp is GM5000T. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! |

As is so often the case with the major mainstream names, it's not a matter of specific performance stats, but rather of longevity and quality. Sony Xplods are probably the most notorious -- they overheat, pick up ambient RF noises, etc. Anyway, we beat the living sh*t out of this topic just a few weeks ago, and the end result was: * Infinity Kappa 6.1 * Hifonics Nemesis NX 880 or Zeus ZX 4000 -Matt |

Oh, and that Pioneer amp is 175x2, which would cook those RCEs at about half-volume. -Matt |

The only amps I'd take from Circuit City would be from MTX or Alpine, but I don't know if that specific Circuit City carries them. They're the most reliable offerings that Circuit City carries. |

Hey Im new to amplifiers but does any one know why when I started playing, I shut it off but when I turned it back on and started playing again no sound was coming through the amp. You can turn the sound up all the way but still no sound. What's wrong with my amp? E-mail me if you know what the problem is. Streetballkid85@aol.com |
