Damping Factor - The ratio of rated load impedance to the internal impedance of an amplifier. The higher the value, the more efficiently an amplifier can control unwanted movement of the speaker coil. A high damping factor is crucial for large speakers that reproduce bass. |

there's not an amp currently available with a DF low enough to have an appreciable effect on sound quality. Besides, all the talk about amps having to have a super high damping factor to sound good doesn't hold water anyway, because tube amps - considered by many of the golden eared to have the best sound quality among the various amp types inherently have an extremely low DF -- some in the single digits. |
