Okay so I installed my JL 10W6 and alpine pdx 1.600 amp with the stock head unit (using a HI/ LO converter) in my IS300 today and honestly the sound quality isn't too bad at all however the sub is definately not hitting as hard as a W6 should hit. The amp is 600 watts RMS and even though I'm sure the W6 can handle more I would think that is a decent amount of power hooked up to one 10. So my question is does an aftermarket headunit really make that much of a difference or do I just need to buy a higer watt amp?

an aftermarket head unit will generally have higher voltage pre outs, that and the signal quality should also increase.

I wouldnt put any more power on a 10" W6. I think the rms is 400? Maybe 500 Im not sure. I had 500wrms on my 12w6 and it was plenty of power.

first of all nice car chris.

thieves is right. its the stock hu. you won't get the kinda bass you want with that unless you get an aftermarket hu. but i am sure you want to keep your dash looking oem so you wouldn't want to change. so get yourself a oem interface by jl audio or rockford fosgate. i am sure you can afford it mr is300. :-)

wow wasn't expecting so many responses that fast! yeah i was pretty sure I was going to need a new headunit I just really didn't want to give up my 6 disc player..

It's a ported box but it's actually speced to the W7's exact demensions not the W6, would that be a problem?

Oh yeah I meant to ask if you were referring to the 3sixty and cleansweep. There was a guy on an IS forum talking about how awesome the cleansweep worked for him but I never jumped on it. And believe it or not Chad I actually bought my IS off of my aunt for 10 grand and had to take out a loan.. haha So does anyone know where I could get a killer deal on the 3sixty or cleansweep?

Of course I had to modify it a little because I didn't realize the W7 is actually narrower than the W6. lol
