I bought my '97 Mustang a few years ago and it came with a Clifford Alarm already installed. The Alarm disables the ignition after 10 seconds and to start the car I have to place a small key into the alarm to de-activate it. My problem is, the key must be getting worn because it takes about 10 minutes of holding the clifford key in the alarm before the alarm de-activates. I have no books with the alarm and don't even know what model it is. Does anyone know if a replacement key or alarm box can be purchased or would it be easier to disable to whole alarm? I can't find anyone who is familiar with the alarm and the closest Clifford Dealer is 14 hours away. I have been told I may need a new ignition because the alarm is wired into it. Any suggestions? |

What you're describing sounds like a Clifford Immobilizer. I don't remember the name of it but I remember installing many of them. Not sure what you can do other then making sure that the key slot is clean. If that doesn't help your only option is to get rid of it. Clifford was puchased by DEi many years ago and I highly doubt that they would be able to help you out. |

Thanks for the reply. I contacted Clifford and you are right...the immobilizer is too old and they are no longer available. I managed to get the immobilizer to go into valet mode, allowing me to start my car without the computer key. This is a temporary fix until I have it removed and replaced by something else. |

Best thing to do is replace it with an alarm, Compustar or Nustart being your best choice for service and warranty. |
