I had been planning to build a custom box for my 2 12" type-r's and last weekend I finally did. 3.8cubes(was gunna do 4 but it would have been too big to fit) tuned to 35hz. I spent the whole day building really making sure it was sealed up tight. Once I was done building I painted in with grey fleck paint and pained the port black. It looks so sweet with the type-r's installed. (pics comming soon) I couldnt belive the improvement in sound that I got. I had the subs in a prefab sealed box before facing back. Now I have the ported box facing forward. It sounds and feels like the output is doubled. It moves tons of air (enough to where i did the shirt in the window trick and the shirt was moving alot). Also facing the box firing forward has really reduced rattles. I cannot believe the improvement. Thanks to everyone who helped me out especially Nick V. |

Congrats man! Glad to hear you are enjoying 'em more now. My buddy has one 12" Type-R in a prefab, and is stubborn to believe that a box built to spec will be that much better. Hurry and get vid/pics up... |

thanks guys. No chad its not braced, I thought about it but didnt really think the woofers were strong enough to need it. Probably wouldnt have been a bad idea though. |

That's a nice job. In no way am I comparing your ability with another member but it reminds me of Wheeler's box awhile back. You don't have a pool do you? |

Can't beat that for a first build... kid has some skills. You won't need bracing for this application. |

he does brad. just a single piece of 2 x 4 going from front to back would really help. the front baffle looks a bit flimsy. don't underestimate those type Rs. they pound. |

Yeah I just glanced at the fit and finish... that baffle is pretty wide now that I look again. |

Looks very good Kevin Nice box for your first build! If you haven't already, push the box as forward (towards the cab) as you can get it. That way it kind of seals off on the sides of the trunk. I bet it was not simple to put in lol. If you want, switch the box around firing towards the back and compare output ;) |

Nick - It was a B!tch to get in there lol. I even scaled it down from the dimensions you gave me and it was still rough. I had to take out that piece of grey plastic that lines the bottom of the trunk opening. Chad - The port is in the way any suggestions? Paul - No I dont have a pool lol. Used to, Why do you ask? Yeah r's really get loud, I only have them on 500rms and they hurt my ears. I cant imagine running 1000+ watts to them... But im sure I will eventually. |

looks solid. Nice job. When you paint mdf, you should use a primer like Kilz 2 or something. that way it wont suck up the paint and leave uneven paint areas. You will use less paint too. |
