Depends. Which subs are you looking at? Same power? For daily or a f@rt machine?

one 15 is more cone area...and probably cheaper than three 8's if all the subs considered are the same brand and line but are you planning on competing

1 15" sub has more cone area than 3 8's. So if all variables (power, tuning, etc..) are the same, in theory, the 15" should be louder.

To me, why would anyone use multiple drivers if one suits the purpose? Amp, wiring, box, ect.....

The K.I.S.S. theory rules this one.

Thanks for the response guys, Ok here is my option (3) 8w7 vs (1) 13w7. I know, I know JL ;-). Both set up will being feed by a 1000/1. By the way the way both will be ported. I am going for a daily application, also if this would help I have Boston Z5 in the dash, and Boston Pro 4's in the kicks and in the rear powered by a 300/4. Many thanks guys.

depends if he wants to compete and that can limit your cone area...and if he competes in say iasca he would be limited to three eights or two 10's...(tens being more cone area) in the 160 square inch class

Hey Sean, I am not competing. Just looking at options. So from your view being I am little green in this area. If you throw out the K.I.S.S theory. What would you do. So teach me something here. 3*8= 24"vs 15" am I am missing something here

ok what you would do is take the woofer size cut it in half and multiply by itself twice and multiply it by 3.14 and you get the square inches of the speaker...so one 8 would be 4 x 4 x 3.14= 50.24...so three eights would be 150.72 and one 15 would be 7.5 x 7.5 x 3.14= 176.625...or as iasca calls it 176.63

So that means that 2 8s would be 100.50 and a 15 is 176.63. So one 15 would almost be twice as loud as 2 8s??
