I'll throw out there my 10" RL-i10 and Kicker ZX500.1 combo for $450 shipped. I can even throw in power wire, stinger in-line fuse holder and 60 amp fuses for less than I paid. Everything brand new.

That would at least take care of the bass, which can be/is the most expensive side of car audio.

Just throwing it out there.

Not necessarily the amps that drive them tho.

You can spend too much on just about anything these days.

Ok here is a very nice budget system. I didnt include a HU since you didnt say you needed one. Total is about $920 plus shipping on the stuff so you'll be around $1000 with shipping.

5.25 Components(find some adaptor brackets to fit them)

Sub

Amp

Wire

You will need a subwoofer box which you can build yourself or find a prefab sealed one for the sub. If you dont want to run components then here are some nice coaxials

You can probly find everything cheaper on ebay.

If you dont want to get adaptor brackets to run 5.25 speakers then I would get these

Do you need a HU or do you have one?

No way, the links I posted are by far better than that. If you want a decent SQ system your front stage should be the biggest concern. The DLS components sound awesome. If you can use ebay then go with the DLS MS6A components, you can get them cheap there.

I would focus on good equipment for the front, and sound deadener. Pauls setup will be good for bass, but again focus on the front.

150 shipped

That will power an active 2 way setup well, or even just drop-in replacements of the speakers you have. I would try to get a good set of 6.5 components.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Focal-Polyglass-165-VR-6-5-2Way-Component-165-V2S-NEW_W0QQit emZ170216480527QQihZ007QQcategoryZ18800QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

would be a good replacement (I'd get a bracket made to fit these, they are 300 shipped I believe.

So around 450 on your front stage.

http://cgi.ebay.com/DLS-UR6S-6-5-2-WAY-COMPONENT-SPEAKERS-ULTIMATE-NEW-06_W0QQit emZ250243100572QQihZ015QQcategoryZ32819QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Those would make it 500 on the front stage.

You could buy pauls sub setup, to finish out the substage. That would leave you with about 100 for wiring, but if you really want sq then you should dump another few hundred in sound deadener. You could easily find cheaper speakers you would be happy with- you just have to listen to things and find what you like.

Personally I didn't like my infinity Kappas- they were way too bright. Just my thoughts on them though.

The type-rs sound pretty good, I prefered the type-x in a sealed enclosure if you have to go alpine. Not my first pick, and again personally I'd go with the rli deal with your budget and the real importance of a sub to your overall sq.

Paul, I think you need to hold onto that until I go into the academy in July so I can get it. That sounds like EXACTLY what I want for my truck!
