continued from http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/4/459973.html

alright got alot done today. so here it goes. pictures and descriptions. lol.

first i laid out all the stuff i am going to be using.
Upload

polyester fleece i bought from the fabric store. it works great with polyester resin.
Upload

now i position the mdf ring in place using bars and hot glue gun. the hot glue gun works great in this situation. since the floor of the pod isn't perfect flat, the hot glue will ooze in to the gaps.
Upload

now i wrap the fleece over the ring. i use spray glue on the backside of the pod and stick the fleece on it. then i pull it tight and spray glue on the other side to hold it in place.
Upload
Upload

finally i mix up some resin and start applying to the fleece. i only apply up to the edges. i don't want to resin the back side. once it cures, i will cut the excess fabric out with a knife.

Upload
Upload

i still need to sand it and apply some duraglass and body filler to make it as perfect as possible. alots of sanding to do. once that is all done, i will wrap it with black vinyl to match the rest of the door panel.

stay tuned for part 3.......

nice Chad, the shape does indeed look perfect. Your learning very well. How much did the fleece take up? did it take up more than 12oz of resin each pod?

the only negative i have is you should have beveled the rings so you did not have a harsh edge..

looking good tho :-)

the edges on my pods were rounded to make the edge smooth.. only thing i skipped on was sanding them completely so when the vinyl went on it looked kind of tacky.. was in a hurry to have them in for the show that weekend and well when you rush things they don't come out as well

my pods were mediocre.. i half@ssed em and got what i put into them.. overall its a good learning experience..

take your time and do things right the first time.. never rush lol

He can fix the edge you're talking about with filler though. I guess he could have saved himself some time had they been beveled to begin with.

kevin its okay the edges are like that. the mid grill is 6 inches in diameter and goes right along the edge. so when the speaker is on, you won't even see the edge. i purpose made the speaker like that rather than flush mounting it so it will match the woofer that is mounted on the outside of the door panel as well.

wait til you see the finished product.

Dang Chad You and Berny do some good work! can't wait to see finished product!!! I love working with fiberglass! You can make anything with it! What kind of tape was that you used it tape panel off?? I do a lot of pods I like the clear shiny tape the best, the resin doesn't stick to it at all! Here's a tip!! shhhhh!! don't tell anyone! ha ha ha The post office gives it for free you just go in tell them you need boxes and tape, or on there website you can order it. they think your going to be spending money shipping with them and it's all a write off to them. Also make sure to wear a mask when working with the resin's, I like the smell but it's not worth the health risk, went had me MRI's re-done 3 day's ago I got 2 nodules in my right lung and 1 in my liver, don't know if it's from chemicals or not so just be careful!

hunter, i have pre-drilled 3 holes. one for the cable and the other 2 for the bolts. it will bolt on to the panel. also i will put a 2 sided tape along side the bottom where it meets the pockets on my panel. that will hold it in place.

marc, i have a mmats 3 way. the pod is for the mid. the woofer will go on my stock location and the tweeters will go on my sail.

staven, i can't wait either. lol. it looks sick. the picture doesn't do it justice. lol.
