Anyone know anything about this amp. Any thoughts on it? Supposed to produce 3000 @ 2 ohms and only weighs 8 lbs. I really don't know how it does what it does and it makes me wonder if it actually produces what it says. I can get one for a good deal and I have a buyer for my IA 40.1. What do you all think?

yeah i know this, but the math just doesnt add up? think about it. i've also wondered about how the SQ of this amp is considering they are simply power houses. they must be incredibly efficient as well.

I hear all good things about them.. i'd go with it.. worst comes to worst you cans ell it to someone for profit.. it says 3000 at 2 ohm.. but it is also stable at 1 ohm... i dunno you should try it... mine as well if you can get a deal on it.. But i believe those are prully for SPL

What? 1% THD is the standard at which power is measured for sub amps (thats CEA standard anyways). You're not going to hear <1% THD on subs..........

the amplifier should have no effect on SQ whatsoever. It should be completely transparent.
Also THD is irrelevant with modern amplifiers of decent quality. It's all well below the threshold of human haring, especially in a car.

" the amplifier should have no effect on SQ whatsoever. It should be completely transparent. "

THANK YOU finally someone who knows what they're talking about. I can't even count how many times I've had to argue with people who say "amp X sounds better than amp Y" or "amp X sounds really good"

They only time an amp would have a negative effect on SQ is if it was driven into clipping, in other words a few % THD or more.

That thing has a pretty small footprint too. Awesome amp from what I've HEARD. Stetsom has supposedly made some VERY efficient amplifiers and I heard they can handle some abuse as well.

you will make a bad mistak from the 40.1 to the 2k6

even jacob fuller from sundownz said it..

the 2k6 have same output transistors and the 2k6 have half of the output of the 2k6 and they compare the 2k6 output power to the 40.1 umm for me thats a no no but im not saying its a bad amp since i never tested it.

ok then listen..

the rated power from your 40.1 is similar to the 2k6

and you want to downgrade or change your amp 40.1 to the 2k6 and personally i wouldn't do it.. in my opinion i will keep the 40.1, the 2k6 like i said it supposed to push rated power close to the 40.1.

the 40.1 and 2k6 uses same output transistors the only difference in them is that the 2k6 uses half of the quantity the 40.1 has to make that kind of power. in other words thats is extremely rare to see an amp like the 2k6 producing that amount of power compared to the 40.1 using less output transistors of the same as the amplifier we are comparing...

even if you want it because the small foot print, well to produce that kind of power like the 40.1 but with half of its transistors... the amp would have to be a really true class d (higher thd ratings from the 40.1) design with a large heatsink and Including the fan that already has.

Conclusion:
once again im not saying that the amp is cr@p or it doesn't produce that kind of power im saying switching from a 40.1 to the 2k6 its going to be a big mistake.. you have in your hands a legendary amp that has been proven to be well built.

just because alan dante doesn't mean you have to use it. and specially for a daily driver vehicle and with the lms you have if you had a str8t spl sub for comps probably will be a good match but your using it for daily driving.

if your swapping/changing it because of the footprints well find a good place to mount your 40.1 but don't change it..

Bottom line:
keep it.

The 40.1 also draws 500 amps. That word comes traight from Scottie Johnson who I KNOW has extensive experience with the amp. The Stetsom will be much more efficient, fit my install better, and I won't be able to tell a difference in the sound, nor would most anyone else.

^^^ yes.. so that means the only thing your looking for is efficiency???

you can get some batts more wiring and a good alt and call it a day instead of buying a new amp.

a class A amplifier has some of the best sq but from the 100% input power sometimes 25% goes out and upto 75% transfer to heat.

class D amplifier can have the efficiency up to 90% but then the bad sometimes goes to the final signal that will have a higher thd.

so that should tell you something.......

your using it for daily driving not spl.. if you were going for spl power and efficiency its a main thing to focus on, just feed up your electrical and call it a day...

make sure you go easy on the amp the amp can withstand lots of abuse...

once again KEEP IT it will be a great match to the lms.

D0RK ^^^^ lOl. I honestly would keep the 40.1 but that is me and should never affect your decision. I am quite biased leaning towards the Korean market there build houses have gotten to be welknown and the board layout is quite sweet. Now looking at the Brazillian made Stetsom makes me like the korean amps even more. The board layout is quite odd having most of the fets to one side not truely taking advantage of the whole surface area of the cooling fins probably why it has a fan. Now as far as internal components they all seem to be there, like a jar of Rague, its in there so the potential is quite good. I like the look of the mass produced korean boards they seem to be very consistant but the Stetsom's seem to have that truely hand built look to them.. To each his own and good luck on what you choose just keep us informed... Polo.

I sold the IA today for 720 bucks and I'm getting the Stetsom for 550 so not only will I recieve nearly the same power, but I will also make nearly 200 bucks. Efficiency IS what I'm looking for as well as a smaller footprint. The Stetsom fulfills both of those needs and costs less. WINNAAAAR.

Good luck with the 2k6 D.
