i'm very aware that components are better than coax speakers but in an effort to not spend a lot of money i think i'm just going to replace the 6x9's in my front doors and the 6.5's in my rear doors. was wondering what people's opinions were of what speakers in those sizes are good. the store that i would probably be going to is Tweeter, so i think they sell alpine, polk, maybe a set of focals, and something else i'm forgetting. so opinions on those brands would be best. thanks in advance. |

forget the rear speakers...save the money and get a better set of 6.5" components for the front! all you need is a 6x9 adapter for the front door. |

i have an suv as well, i NEVER hear the rear speakers..your not supposed to. all the sound is supposed to come from in front of you. anyway tho, how much do u want to spend? and 6x9's are the best speakers.. |

Abarca is correct. when you get down to technicalities, there's really no reason to purchase rear speakers. you as the primary listener will never hear your rear speakers. the sound that your ears hear are coming from the front speakers. an optimal setup is one in which your ears hear no sound from the rear speakers. you could think of it as this....you adjust the fader until you reach the point where you can just barely hear your rear speakers, then you turn it back a notch. in turn, 2 things happen. you save money on an amp and you save money on not purchasing rear speakers take that money and get a better set of front components. then simply keep your existing rear speakers in their spots and run them off the head unit. that's your optimal setup right there. Abarca..did you mean to say "6x9's are not the best speakers" or were you being sarcastic? |

I had a pair of 6.5 focal polyglass coax. speakers in my front doors. I got 6x9 adapters they sounded alright but for 300 dollars I was dissapointed. I bought some mb quart 6x9's DTC 169 for $90's. I put them in little 6x9 boxes not in the doors, and just set the boxes facing up by the kick panels. Let me say that the 6x9's sound twice as good as the focals for 1/3 the cost. Both speakers kind of bright though. I need a good set of components 99 dodge ram |
