You don't really need a new battery unless your going to do comps.......... Is that the biggest alternator you can get? Get that biggest one, preferably 200+ amp is available. |

oh and would having a larger alternator effect how my car ran, such as pulling the engine down, or would it really not make much of a difference in that aspect? |

Also when you upgrade to a bigger alternator, you need to upgrade the big 3. Google the "big three" upgrade and click the first link to get directions on how. You will ne 0ga or bigger for the big 3 upgrade. especially with the 200+ amp alt. or http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1 this goes right to it. |

No a ho alt woun't make the engine drag, it just produces more amps so that you can run more electrical accessories in the car. it puts more power out. i.e if you have a large amp that makes the lights dim in the car when it hits, a high output alt will stop it. |

ok guys i found some info on alternator amps vs. current draw. if i'm wrong here let me know. so far i have a 1500 watt, 500 rms 4 channel amp. current draw should be 23.2. i want to get a 1000 rms mono amp. current draw on that should be 46.3. if i got a 170 amp alternator its able current would be 68. total draw would be 69.5, 1.5 over available current. would this 1.5 matter at all and are my calculations correct? |

Those calculations are useless since current draw will by dynamic not constant. Get a 200+ amp alternator if you can |
