well actually, your amp might have been sending your subs a clipped signal which in turn can blow your subs...

Sony amps suck no matter what, sorry to say lol

Yo son, I'll guarantee you that Sony amp is on it's last leg. Get you a budget first and these guys here will steer you in the RIGHT direction. The square sub thing you're talking about also needs revised. No hating from me but Kicker subs besides the Solo X 12'' or 18'' can't do it for me. I have [3] CVR 12'' dual 4 subs brand new in box since May 2006 and I'm still going with another setup. That should tell you something.

You got a tight-azz Beemer. Me personally I would get a simple one sub clean install in that, preferrabily a Audioque HDC3 12'' in a nice custom box and a Kicker ZX 1000 with some nice comps, you'd be straight. There are countless other options.

yea u better hurry up on the HDC3's if u want them that is. there out of stock on alot of the subs, i think only 10 d1 and 12 d1 is left and there all out of 15s. A zx1000.1 is more then enough power for AQ because i got a hdc315 off of that amp and i like how it sounds...but there's so many options out there bro.

Are you wanting sound quality(sq), loud(spl), or best of both(sql)? Whats your budget?

I would like to get some nice bass out of my system. The bmw system sounds great. I just want some more kick. I don't want to spend any more than $500. It seems everybody hates the sony amp I'm using but I have never had a problem with it.

Steve,

I used a Sony Xplod amp of 2 Type R's and hit just shy of 140db. I am with you, I had no problems with my Sony amp and it did it's job.

I had something like the XM-D9001GTR but the model beofore this it. Rectangle and silver, not an octagon or red.

id go for 1 15" for that cleaner look and if installed properly it sumtimes suprises ppl that you only have one sub. IMO i wouldnt go over 1000 watts because you wouldnt want to ruin a great car like that 745i you have, with loose panels and stuff..JMO

Honestly, why spend $500 on a sub and use a low quality amp? You could get a whole setup for $500 thats better than the sony amp and better than that keeker sub. If you push that amp, it will get hot and just p1ss you off all day. I have naver seen a sony amp that does not overheat.

Back on topic...

Check out this website and tell us what you find

Or for $519.99 you can get this and ditch that amp.

Oh and x2 on the single 15".

I would avoid the square subs. They have bad sq and have a high failure rate.

Ok thanks so much for all the help. So I'm gonna go with a round 15" sub. Any recommendations on an amp. And a sub? The soundsolutionsaudio 15 and amp mentioned above. Is that stuff any good? I've never heard of it and just want to be sure its no the owner of the company trying to sell me something. Thanks
