Im doing an install for a friend with a 2000 Mercury Cougar and it has 5x7's in the front and rear. I`ve never done an install with these size speakers so does anyone have experience with good quality 5x7 components. I was thinking of doing components up front and seperates in the back just for some rear fill (mids). Looking in the under $150 price range. Doesn't need to be the best, just decent SQ. |

Small car, why don't you just get speaker adapters to go from 5x7 to 5 1/4? Then get some decent speakers, and amp for them and forget about the rear. Just a thought. |

5.25 would give you better sound than 5x7's...the 5.25's could at least be SQ oriented...with 5x7's thats pretty much impossible. |

Give the Devil his due, 5x7's can sound alright but not for $150. Besides it's all a matter of taste. I had some Infinity Refs in an old Explorer some time ago and I enjoyed them. |

you're not gonna see 5x7's used in any SQ oriented setup. you'll see them used when the customer is either 1) scared of installing something different than what is stock, or 2) when they don't care all that much about how it sounds, as long as it's slightly better than stock. there's reasons why very few manufacturers actually make 5x7's, and if they do they're always a lower line. one of those reasons is that a 5.25" produces a better sound. 5x7 is simply about having as much cone area as is possible. |

wow. $500 for 5x7's. jesus christ. i've never heard them. considering their ID though, i'm sure they're a solid product. I may have to go find an ID dealer to give these things a listen. I'd love to find a great 5x7 set. |

Yea last time I looked they weren't even on ID's site yet. I was gonna get a set of the 6.5s, but heard the DA HEXs were better for the price. Funny thing is ID came out with a 6.5, 5x7 and 6x9, but no 5.25... you'd think if they were gonna come out with a 5x7 they'd at least have a 5.25, and maybe even a 4, too lol |
