I'm looking at getting good wires to wire up my Power Acoustik A3000DB to power two Eclipse SW8200's.
For 1300W RMS I'm assuming I might as well get 0 gauge wiring. I feel 4 gauge might be under-powering.
Does this look good?

Even if 4 guage was fine(im not sure if it is or not) you will want 1/0 guage so you dont have to pay twice and run the wire twice. |

That QPower wire is nowhere near 0 gauge wire.Please don't buy that kit.I've owned that exact same "0 Awg " wire and it's nowhere near,it's in between 1 or 2 awg but I'd say closer to 2 gauge.If you're going to spend money on 1/0 gauge wire get either Kicker Hyperflex wire or buy Knukonceptz Kolossus Kable.I prefer Kicker Hyperflex but I've owned all the types of wire I've mentioned in this post of mine. |

I think I'm going to go with this Power Acoustik kit, I know Power Acoustik isn't the best brand and they probably overrate, but I have a Power Acoustik amp and this wire they rate at 3000 watts. I'm only running 1300 watts RMS so it should be more than enough.

That's also a terrible wire to use lol.My Kicker Hyperflex 4 gauge wire is thicker than that "2 Gauge" there's no way you can run 3000 watts on that wire.I know that kit because it's what my friend has but he will only be running 1K rms and even that seems like it's pushing it... |

Its not the wattage your amp puts out. You need to look at the amprage you amplifier uses or draws at max current draw. You can push a 3000 watts through 12 ga wire if your amplifier is 100% efficent. Class a/b amps are only 20/30 percent efficent. So they reqiure massive amounts of power. Class d amps are 80/90 percent efficent so require a lot less. That is why some amps have smaller fuses on them than others, but are rated with higher rms values.They are a different class amp. I run 1200 watts rms from a Hifonics Class a/b Planet x Amplifier on a single 4ga Stinger power cable. I am willing to bet money to anyone here. I can run 2500-3000 rms class d amp on a single 4ga cable.
You guys should read up on amplifiers and the different classes here. It will make you realize that alot of companies use word play like the "3000 watt amplifier kit" just to take advantage of you.

When I'm talking about 3000 watts I mean 3000 watts.3000 watts is 3000 watts no matter how efficient.Assuming the amp is putting out rated power it will be what it is supposed to be.A 3000 watts RMS is 3000 watts RMS no matter what class it is.But you're right some amps put out equal power in comparison to another amp but with less current draw because it is more efficient.If you want to run 3K rms on a 4 gauge wire go right ahead you'll probably be the only one recommending that especially in a larger vehicle where you need a 20 foot or so piece of wire.The SMART thing would be to run your main run of 1/0 and that will allow cushion in case you plan on upgrading.If that 4 gauge wire only needs to be a few feet long to deliver that 3k rms then it might work out but when you're running a long run it's not a very smart thing to do and you'll be bottlenecking or choking your current supply to your amplifier(s). |

Hmm, good luck with keeping it at 50 bucks. Wire isn't cheap, and a quality 1/0 kit will run you about 100 bucks. Think of it like this: how much did you pay for everything else? Then why would you hook it all up to the cheapest power wire you can find? For 1300 watts you could also run 2 gauge just fine. 1/0 is for up to 3500 |

Rob I wasnt saying its a smart thing to do , What I was saying however is 1300 watts rms from a class d amp can be pushed using a 4ga power wire all day long, without worry. Check out these 2 amps from the same maker with different class amplifiers

Jamey I understand fully what you were saying and I agree with the things you said I just tried to make things a bit more clearly for the original poster.Getting a wiring kit for 50 dollars won't be easy if you're looking to run 1/0.What I can recommend is that you talk to Paul Larrea on this Forum and he will have something that will be the best bang for your buck.I'll link him to this thread. |
