is there a huge difference between a 2 volt or a 5 volt pre amp outlet? is it enough to buy one or the other?

It depends a lot on the other features you're looking for and the rest of your setup. If all you're doing is a deck upgrade then it won't matter but if you're running amps then it might be worth thinking about the 5V unit.
