I plan on gettin a power cap to smooth out my dimming lights and such(i prefer to do the work myself, changing an alternator is not something I know how or want to do), will this also regulate the voltage to my amp? If I recall correctly cars have a running voltage of around 13.6, but I see caps with outputs of 14.4 and higher. Will a higher voltage input to the amp mean higher wattage output to the subs? |

most companies rate their rating @ 14.4, so it will do that rated power @ 14.4 volts.
as far as a cap, i would never get one unless you have a good HO alt. getting a cap will only temporarly "mask" the dimming lights until your alt poops out |

I wouldn't recommend a cap either. Like he says it just masks it. The lights will probably still dim because the battery and alternater will still struggle to power the cap. Capacitors are really designed just to keep a constant smooth voltage when the voltage supply is spiking up and down. |
