Hey, Im new to Car Audio... Yesterday I went to Brandsmart U.S.A. looking for some subs. I stumbled upon the JBL gt4-12 subs. I saw 1000 Watts.. Im like wow.. that must bump hard.. Now I returned to brandsmart today to look for the cables I need to install the subs, and I asked what cables do i need? The dude asked me how big is the amp and which subs? Im like those subs.. and I want to buy like a 2000 watt 2-way amp.. since what I thought was 2000/2= 1000 watt for each sub. He told me each sub had 250 R.M.S. , this is what I don't understand. What is R.M.S. and what is the total watt I could go with it? Can someone explain how this works.. and which is the best amp (Meaning loudest without blowing them) that would go with these subs? |

in car audio you never go by peak power, always RMS. your subs are 25O rms each, you need and amp that will do 5OO rms. what is the voice coil config on your subs? |

RMS= root means square Geez. lol no but about "loadness" its senstiviy+10log(rms watts) and that will give you db. its not exact but it gives you an idea like a jl 12w6v2 for example its sensitivity is 85.9 and the rms watts is 400 so 85.9+10log(400)= 111.92 |

if that is a single 4ohm then a 2 ohm mono amp, if those are dual 4 ohm subs, get a mono 1 ohm or a 2 channel amp. do not buy a 2 channel amp for 2 single 4 ohm speakers. |

Ramses, they will sound clean and of course you're going to hear it outside the car, only if you're not deaf lol! I think your budget is kinda low, so my best suggestion for you would be audiobahn a8000T. Ramses, since you have interest for car audio, start reading from these three sites www.bcae1.com www.wickedcases.com (useful site from glasswolf) And this in case you have some doubts about wiring subs. www.the12volt.com Ramses, do you know how to build boxes?? i hope you're not planning to buy those crappy boxes... Talk to Wahl or one of these guys who knows about boxes, if i were you i'd talk to bassman3 |

is the box sealed or ported? what's the tuning frequency?? many factors.... those subs will sound better sealed, but depends what kind of music do you like and how do you like the bass.... Do you like tight bass? OR do you like boomy bass?? |

Well I listen to Hip Hop Mostly.. I just like the bass to be loud so like people could know what your hearing outside. Make people turn heads you know? That's the box. http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/8111/hpim0239xk1.jpg |

no no no. Trust me you wont see over 100 watts out of that thing. I was fooled when I first got into car audio and bought one of those and my god it was the worst decision ever. so what is your price range??? you can get this. it says 800 @ 2ohms but its rated for 17volts so you will prolly get right around 500 out of it. only 102 bucks http://cgi.ebay.com/MA-AUDIO-M1889I-800w-MONO-BLOCK-CAR-AMPLIFIER-POWER-AMP_W0QQ itemZ270048429755QQihZ017QQcategoryZ18797QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |

80 Bucks shipped is my limit. I'm dying to install it in my car, Im gonna try that amp... if it don't do well, I'll save up for a better one. But I need one to start out. Not only that I have to buy the wiring kit, and pay for the installation. Yes I know I could do the installation myself, but for my car I have to remove all the panels.. and I dont wanna mess up anything and then have to pay my parents back for it. I rather take it to a pro, that way they mess it up..they pay. |

Forget about the brandname.. is the wattage it's pumping out compatible for my 2 subs? I tell you this because my friends have systems.. and there flea market/No name brands.. and they still thump hard.. I Dont want to hear the needle hitting the floor.. I just want to hear every beat bump hard in the back. Thats it. |

then maybe you need to go to the flea market, or cash converters, but you can try item numbers 300042992929, or 300043965309, better then that cuspid amp.... |

I also forgot to mention that I'm connected all of this to a stock stereo. My stock stereo is a JBL Head Unit and bumps hard. Do I need anything else? |

Trevor you f*cked up his system with ma audio. They're so overrated and their quality isn't top notch. I'd have picked the audiobahn, it has better quality, a cooling fan and it holds extremely cool/hot temperatures. Ramses i hope you enjoy it. Even a profile would be a lot better than the MA |

I just went on ebay and purchased this item number. Item number: 140049157970 Does this work good? |

doesn't matter too much the brand of the LOC, you just need the LOC ramses. I hope you enjoy your lil system. Is nice and should sound clean. |

If I recieve everything by thursday, then friday morning Im taking it for the install. I'll tell you how it sounds, and take some video of it, and place it on youtube. I'm already thinking about a system for next year. I'm going to save up and buy Alpine Type R's. Ive seen so many video's on youtube. Those things look crazy! I'mma buy also a alpine headunit, and I got to see what amp, powers them up good to give them that huge bass I see in videos. Here's a example: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6qiBw3JkNQo I want that crazy bass! |

Why am I sure... Don't know but he states it in the begining of the video they are 2 12" Type R's. What are huge ports? The spaces for ventilation? |

I like to thank everyone who helped me. I took everything to get installed today, and it exceded my expectations. The bass is incredible, and two of my friends that their flee market system was the "ish" they now envy mine. |
