Can you use cleaning discs on slot-loading drives like in HUs? My 860mp has started skipping a bit, even though the discs work in other players. |

If you have the guts, you can take it apart and rub the lens with a q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol, then use the other side of the q-tip to dry it off. |

Lol Muddy, I've tried it but the cd's aren't even that dirty or scratched. And no, I don't have the guts to take it apart Compressed air sounds like it might be the go, I'll see what happens. |

no, not clean your cd's, get a cleaning cd. they sell them at any cd store, walmart, circuit city, best buy...ect. its a cd that has tiny brissles on the bottom that clean the lens. some have a liquid solution too, but idk if i'd use that liquid solution in a cd player though.... |

If not in a cd player, then what would you use the cleaning solution in? Aside from that... Those cleaning discs are intended for a cd player with a tray.. if you use it in your cd player for your car those tiny brissles will collect the dust from the felt on the cd input/eject slot and could get the lens more dirty that you started with. If I were you, I'd use the compressed air solution given above.. or bring it to a specialist and pay them 20 bucks to clean it (it's 20 here, don't know about where you live, though). Make sure you're out of warranty if you decide to open it up yourself, or at least make sure not to leave traces that you opened it up yourself if you are still in warranty. Last but not least... make sure you un-plug the harness before attempting anything. If it's plugged in and the stereo is off, the laser is still on! It has to be in order to keep it's place on the cd when the player is off... keep that in mind when cleaning it yourself Good luck! |

Ohh my bad, I misread Muddy's reply. I'll pick up a cleaning CD today and see how I go. If that doesn't work I can always try the compressed air or take it in to a specialist later on. Thanks guys |
