I have a 2000 VW Golf with a standard alarm and it was turning on as it pleased until one morning I opened the door as usual and now the alarm remains on for about a minute into driving and the air bag signal remains on. Can anyone help me or will an exorcism be necessary?

Factory alarm? Or aftermarket? If it is the factory alarm, and you had an aftermarket alarm isntalled it could be the disarm not being hooked up. If it is the factory alarm, take it to a dealership.

And as far as air bag light goes, whenever it gets unplugged it usually stays off. Just disconnect your battery for a few minutes and that part will be back to normal.
